Surprise!!!! Got my 846 today !! Ddd of 4/24

So hubby and I filed jointly on 2/17, didnt get our verification letter till 3/28 and verified online same day. Exactly 2 weeks after verification we went back into processing. This past week all 4 transcripts updated but we got a code of 570 and nothing else. Today I logged into both of our IRS accounts and noticed our “tax return not processed” message disappeared. Hopefully good news coming this Friday. 🤞

Also, there might be a specific IRS form that is used for just such an issue. The University might have a department to help out. Maybe you can ask one of the international finance/accounting professors.

I am not a tax accountant –
The University should send you a document showing the amount they withheld. It may not show your SSN. I would put that amount on your return as taxes withheld. Include that document with your paper return. The IRS website shows how to attach files to an electronic return.

Can you contact any other French nationals who have experienced the same issue, and get advice from them?

Filed 2/16/24 Still waiting in dire financial need with special needs kids. No notice or transcript updates in almost 2 months. my last 2 codes were 570 then 768. No notices generated. only one job. dependent care FSA was showing on 1040 as income. wasnt sure if that was the issue since phone reps wont tell me. dropped off verification on my own at a local irs center just in case and still told to just wait with no estimate on how long. I’m a french citizen who did an internship in a US University from August 2023 to February 2024. As a french citizen working in public research, I got a total tax exemption because of a tax treaty between the US and France.

When I arrived in the US, I didn’t got my SSN, so, for my first three paychecks, I got taxed at 30% of my total income. After I received my SSN, the tax treaty applied and I got a total tax exemption. Nevertheless, my tax treaty should be retroactive and I should do a tax return to recover the 30% of my first three paychecks. The University gave me a Form 1042-S which doesn’t reflect any tax withholding.

What do you think I should change or add to correctly do my tax return and recover the taxes of my first three paychecks ?

I have the 570 code no 971. IRS said it’s either a disconnect between my employer and SSA or a disconnect between them and SSA. Then he told me if I don’t get my refund by June 5th(at 120 days) to give them a call. I asked if I could just send in my w2. Nope. So I just have to wait. I filed Jan 29th. I just don’t understand. On my transcript it gave me the 570 code with 0.00 and March 4th. It’s been giving me that same thing since February.

Just checked my transcript and to my surprise the 846 was there! Refund on the way guys! Hopefully everyone gets that 846 code soon, sprinkling some “hurry up” dust on the IRS for ya. Stay hopeful, my refund took about 8 weeks. See y’all next tax season!

Anyone joint filers out there I’m looking for feedback on ID verification. Filed 3/19. Joint ID verification letter received 4/8. I uploaded the control number in my ID.Me notice notification and the message went away and was successfully verified. I’m the primary filer and only my WMR has ID verification notice, husband only says still processing. No transcript updates.
Do both filers need to complete verification through ID me or just me being primary filer and it was a joint letter?

They told me everything is good with return that they have a code saying is error on the system and they need to do it manually. Hope it is processed within 30 days. They said you need to call because if you don’t call. It will take longer to refund you back.

Wait the 21 days and called IRS they told me to give them 10 weeks that my return is on error department my 10 weeks pass today 4/16. I called IRS today 4/16 and they told me they process a reference for them to check on return and wait 30 days for refund if there is no return in 30 days they will sent a letter explaining the reason of delayed on return.

Same situation for me! Filed 1/29 accepted 2/3. WMR on one bar still transcripts have not changed. Top two have N/A and bottom show year but no additional info. I have called twice and was told we were selected for review. Was told by 4/5 our refund should be released but still have nothing. For reference we filed MFJ, 3 children, same residence same employers for years. Also have not received any notices, mail, requests…etc. Beyond over it.

Well my as of date is March 4, 2024 and still nothing, no movement, no changes no nothing! I am at the 11 weeks for injured spouse and still I wait. Every year for the last 5 years there is a date or excuse why it isn’t done. WMR still processing with the 152 TC, my transcript is AS of date 3/4/2024, 570 TC 3/4/2024. I just don’t understand the delay for IS.

Finally! I’ve been waiting since January for my return. I got a Tax Advocate and was told the former employer hadn’t sent my 1099r(s) to the IRS yet. It looked like I had overstated my income. I had to fax the 1099r(s), the withdrawal statements, and bank statements showing the funds had been deposited into my account. I also reached out to my former employer and was told they didn’t send them to the IRS until March 31st. My refund is finally set to be sent on April 17th.

I amended the end of Feb, checked my transcripts Tue 3/9 and I have tax code 290 with 0.00 on 3/5. look up the where’s my amended refund, that should give you a little info. it shows like where’s my refund with the 3 bars, only diff is instead of RECIEVED APPROVED SENT it shows RECIEVED ADJUSTED & COMPLETE.
