I checked the WMR yesterday and received a notice that “Your refund has been reduced to pay a past due IRS tax obligation.”

However, the refund that they are sending me is exactly what I expected to receive…and I know of no “past due IRS tax obligation”. Has anyone else seen this issue?

Hi everyone. You can add me to the list of people who received the message. I, like Sheree, called the 800 # and received the same message. I wonder if it says I have NO tax obligations because my refund was already applied?? I can’t call anyone until Tuesday since Monday is a holiday, but I was hoping those who experienced the same can post an update as to whether they received their full refund afterall. Thanks.

Grace, the message I got was on wmr but I have a ddd. If you don’t have a ddd you are still processing. Did it tell you that you have a prior tax obligation and no ddd?? Or it could be maybe wmr just hasn’t updated correctly for you?? I have heard some people have gotten their deposits before they got a ddd on wmr. I know some people also say they had a delay for the aca but I can tell you there was no delay for me and I had the aca penalty.

I received the same message, my question is how long will this hold up my refund? It does not give me a new refund amount or a date. Does anyone know?

I have the same issue and refund amount is what I was expecting. Maybe this has something to do with the aca penalty.

Got same message on WMR. Followed advice of Sheree:

“Hey everyone, I am having the same issue with getting the message : Your refund has been reduced to pay a past due IRS tax obligation on WMR. This may be old news, but I thought I would share because I know how annoying it is to call IRS phone #’s and get nowhere. I FINALLY got on the phone with a helpful person who gave me a phone # to the treasury department, in which the first option to chose from is getting the exact information on any offsets that might be affecting one’s refund amount. After you select option# 1, it asks you to enter your SS# twice, and then it gives you specific information on your personal refund. That phone # is: 1 800)304-3107.
                  Good Luck!!

P.s. When I called, it said, “you have NO past due obligations affecting your refund.” How strange is that!? Hopefully it’s just a glitch :)”

I got same message, no prior tax obligation found. Weird. must be a glitch??

I get the same thing. I called the debt number for my wife and myself and there aren’t any debts registered there. The amount being sent is what I expected. Probably some dumb error in the automated system, using “less than or equal” when they meant “less than.”
