I have seen many people asking where to find their cycle codes and others asking what they mean. I decided to explain this the best that I can.
First you either have to view your 2017 tax transcript online or order it by mail. Near the bottom you will see a Cycle code that looks like a date but is actually the code form of the date.I am going to take the code that was given to me last week from someone who wanted to know what it meant. 20180504
first the 2018 is the year
then the next two digits are the week of the year, in this case 05
For 05 it would be the 5th week of the year which in this case is the week of 1/29-2/2
2/5-2/9 is week 6
2/12-2/16 is week 7
2/19-2/23 is week 8
and so on.
Now on to the third two digit number which in this case is 04,is a Tuesday. the IRS week starts on a Thursday and ends on a Wednesday so the days go as follows.
Thursday-01
Friday-02
Monday- 03
Tuesday-04
Wednesday-05
If your cycle code ends in 01,02,03 or 04 your a daily and could update on WMR any day of the week, if it ends in 05 your a weekly. Weekly accounts update Saturdays from midnight to 3am. Also if you are a weekly then your deposit will usually be issued the following Wednesday, provided your not effected by the Path act, if so it will be held until they release it after the hold timer runs out on 2/12-2/15.
So it breaks down like this:
Cycle code: 20180504
You know this is a daily, for the year 2018, week 5, day 4- = 1/30/2018
I hope this helps as someone helped me understand it 5 years ago and it has made getting my refund that much easier to understand. Good Luck everyone.
